You should just be able to burn a CD from the files you have in iTunes. Create a playlist of the songs you want on your CD and then hit the Burn CD button. It should play in almost any CD player just fine. There are some really old CD players that cannot read burned CDs, but most of them can. No need to convert any of the files, burning them to a CD makes them playable in most CD players. Can I burn a CD to play on an old CD player via itunes? Yes, iTunes can help you convert and burn mp3 to CD for playback. But I don't like to use iTunes to do that, the conversion speed is really slow. You may take a look at this step by step guide, it will teach you how to convert and burn music to CD for playback, it's easy to understand and works pretty well for me.
